16 Best Headphones With Mic In 2017

If you are on this page, you are probably looking for a new pair of headphones with mic and you are having doubts about the amount of money you should spend or about the type of headphones, you should buy. This article is designed to help you with your choice and clarify any doubt you might have. Whether you are looking for some cheap but quality headphones, or you are ready to splash some serious amount of cash but you are not quite sure which type meets your needs, you should definitely take a look at our list of 16 best headphones with mic.

What Types of Headphones with Mic Are There on the Market?

The market is flooded with different kinds of headphones with mic, designed to meet any need you could possibly have. There are sports headphones, gaming headphones, travel headphones, headphones made for audiophiles and for less demanding users, etc. Considering the looks and shape, headphones can be split into three groups –  over-ear headphones, on-ear headphones, and in-ear headphones or earbuds (with around-ear or in-ear hooks). Based on the type of connection we can separate all the headphones into two groups – traditional wired headphones and wireless headphones (Bluetooth headphones).

Which Type of Headphones with Mic Should You Buy?

Now that you know what types of headphones are there, it is important to choose the type that suits you best.

First of all, you should define your needs – if you use your headphones in the gym, or while running, jogging or cycling, you should buy some sports headphones. Important features of this type of headphones are IPX4 or higher sweat resistance, water resistance (or waterproof) rating, stability, and comfort. Being resistant to sweat, water, and rain is one of the crucial characteristics of these headphones. You will be wearing your headphones during sweaty workouts, or while running, and you don’t want them to get damaged because of all that sweat. People looking for sports headphones usually buy in-ear headphones with ear-hooks that ensure stability, because they don’t want to readjust headphones after every step. Also, they prefer wireless over wired earbuds because nobody wants cords dangling around during the workout.  Mic is a nice addition to this type of headphones, especially if you are a business person and you don’t want to miss some important call while running or working out.

If you are planning to buy gaming headset you should pay attention to the gaming console and platform you are going to use, mic, comfort, and of course the sound quality. Some wireless gaming headsets are not compatible with all the consoles and platforms, so you should check if the desired headset is compatible with the consoles you use. Mic plays a big role in gamer’s life, so it must be really good in order to have perfect communication with other players. If you have enough money, you can go for headsets with noise reduction or noise cancellation technology, which make communication so much easier, even in noisy environment. Surround sound is crucial for some games, especially for shooting games when you have to hear if someone is sneaking up on you from behind. Gamers usually buy over-ear and on-ear headphones rather than gaming earbuds, because of the comfort issue. Wireless gaming headsets are more and more popular among the gamers but have in mind that they are still more expensive than wired headsets, so if you don’t plan to spend some serious money, buy wired headphones.

If you are commuter or frequent flyer, you will be looking for headphones with good noise reduction or noise canceling system, good sound and preferably for wireless headphones. Trains, buses or planes can be really noisy, so if you want to isolate yourself from all that noise or use a mic for talking on the phone you must have good noise canceling headphones with mic. You should be aware that noise reduction and noise canceling are not the same things, and all the manufacturers carefully advertise these functions. Noise canceling headphones offer you better experience than noise reduction headphones, but they also cost more. Wireless headphones with mic are probably better option for riding on a plane or train because you don’t want the cords to get stuck everywhere, but if you don’t have enough money, you can go for wired headphones with mic, you just have to be more careful with your cords. Over-ear headphones are more popular than others, because of the better noise isolation.

If you are an audiophile, whether you use your headphones in the gym, on the train, or on any other occasion, you will be looking for some high-end headphones with great noise cancellation, and you will certainly have to pay more than some less demanding users.

Here is our list of 16 best headphones with mic.

Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series I) ANC Wireless Headphones

Approximate Price : $329.00

Well, there is no surprise here – Bose QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones are probably everyone’s first choice. These are the best headphones on the market, and there is no doubt about that. Everything about them is simply great – design, sound quality, active noise canceling technology, comfort, controls, battery life. The only downside is the price – all the Bose products are high-priced, but you can be certain that you will get quality that matches the price.

Headphones come in a simple black or white box, which is surprising considering the price. Some would maybe expect flashy package, but we are fine with this one – it’s much more important what’s inside. Headphones are available in black and silver colors, and the design is really stylish. Along with the headphones, you will get audio cable with 3.5mm jack (because headphones can work in two modes – wired and wireless), USB charging cable and sturdy black carrying case. Controls are simple and easy to use. All the controls are on the right earcup – you can use them to adjust the sound volume, change tracks, or answer and make calls. Headphones feel really comfortable, and you won’t feel any pressure or discomfort after hours of wearing.

Bose QC35 headphones offer you perfect sound quality – rich bass, clean treble, and full and warm mid-tones. Active noise canceling (ANC) technology truly isolates you from all the noise, and there is definitely no better product on the market in this department. Talking on the phone is so easy with these headphones, it doesn’t matter how noisy or windy environment you are in. Headphones use Bluetooth 4.1 technology and can be paired with any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range, but other users testify that the connection remains stable even if you are more than 50ft away from the phone. Another great function is NFC pairing, which means that you just have to put your headphones next to your phone and turn on NFC function (functions only with Android phones, iPhones use NFC function only for apple pay but there are rumors that there will be expansion of NFC capabilities soon). Battery offers you up to 20 hours of listening to music or talking on the phone in wireless mode, and up to 40 hours in wired mode. It takes 2.25 hours for the battery to fully recharge.

Bose QC35 headphones are great (probably the best) choice for audiophiles, gamers, commuters and frequent flyers, but we don’t recommend using them while working out since they are not sweat or water resistant.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Stylish design

Simple and easy-to-use controls

Extremely comfortable

Wired and wireless modes

Excellent sound quality

ANC function works like a charm

Bluetooth 4.1 technology

NFC pairing function

Long battery life – up to 20 hours of playback in wireless mode, up to 40 hours in wired mode

High price (but worth every cent)

Not water and sweat resistant

Mpow Bluetooth Headphones Over Ear, Hi-Fi Stereo Wireless Headset

Approximate Price : $34.00

These headphones are one of the most popular highly rated headphones on the market. The main reason is probably the combination of the price, which is affordable for most customers and the quality you get that goes well beyond that price. In our opinion, Mpow Bluetooth Headphones offer the best price-quality ratio on the market.

Headphones come in a simple cardboard box – you can immediately see that Mpow didn’t put any effort into designing the package, but still, they did decent job with the headphones. In the box, you will find headphones, USB charging cable, audio cable with 3.5mm jacks, user manual, and carrying bag. Headphones are available in 4 color combinations – black, black-red, black-blue, and black-green. They are made of sturdy plastic combined with stainless steel parts. The manufacturer tried to make the headphones as comfortable as possible – Mpow used stainless steel to make extenders that enable you to adjust the headband, and soft memory-protein is used for earmuffs so you won’t feel any pressure on your ears. Although they did so much, the most of the users’ complaints are related to the discomfort. There were not that many complaints, but we still have to mention that some users found these headphones a little bit too tight, which made their ears sweat and hurt. The problem is the size of earmuffs (1.2-2 inches diameter), so if you have slightly bigger ears and you intend to use your headphones for more than two hours without taking them off, these are probably not the best choice for you. Mpow Bluetooth over-ear headphones are foldable, so they won’t take much space on your desk, or in your bag. There is also carrying bag made of some kind of textile in the package, but if you want your headphones to be safe you should probably consider buying some sturdy protective case. Controls are on the right earcup. You can use them to control music playback and volume level, and to make or receive calls. Built-in mic is located on the left earcup.

Headphones offer pretty good sound quality with maybe just a little too much bass, but you will be definitely happy with the sound considering the price. They use CVC 6.0 passive noise reduction technology, which is not as good as ANC technology, but combined with over-ear design it provides satisfying noise isolation. Headphones can work in two modes – wireless and wired, but for some reason, mic will work only in wireless mode. Bluetooth 4.0 technology enables pairing with any Bluetooth enabled device (iPhone, iPod, Android phone, PC or TV) in 33ft range, but based on our experience the range is shorter than that (20-25ft). Headphones can be simultaneously connected to 2 devices. The battery can last up to 13 hours of listening to music, or 15 hours of talking on the phone. It takes 4 hours to fully recharge the battery.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Affordable price and good price-quality ratio

Foldable design

Simple and easy-to-use controls

Good sound quality

Works in 2 modes – wired and wireless

Bluetooth 4.0 technology

Simultaneous pairing with two devices

Long battery life – up to 13 hours of music playback, up to 15 hours of talking on the phone

CVC 6.0 noise reduction technology

Uncomfortable for the people with bigger ears because of the small earmuffs

Mic works only in wireless mode

COWIN E7 ANC Bluetooth Headphones with Microphone

Approximate Price : $70.00

Cowin E7 are one of the cheapest Bluetooth headphones with ANC technology on the market. If you don’t have enough money for some more expensive headphones (like Bose QC) and you need them mostly for travel, these could be really good choice.

Cowin E7 headphones come in a stylish black box, in which you will also find USB charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable, user manual, and leather-like black pouch. The design is stylish and simple, and there is only one color available, so if you don’t want black headphones, you should look elsewhere. Headphones are mostly made of plastic and don’t look durable; headband and earmuffs are covered with fake leather. Earcups are adjustable and can be rotated up to 90 degrees. The ear cushions are made of protein foam, and they offer great softness and comfort. On the right earcup, you can find the volume, call, and track controls, and there is also ANC switch. These headphones can be used in many situations, but it is not recommendable to use them for running or working out because they are not sweatproof or waterproof.

Cowin E7 headphones offer you great sound quality with booming bass and full mid-tones thanks to 40mm drivers. ANC technology functions great with low-frequency noise, but you will experience some problems with high-frequency noise. For example, if you are on a plane, you won’t hear the engine sound, but you will definitely hear some baby crying or screaming. So, to summarize – ANC works well, but not great. Headphones work in 2 modes – wireless and wired, so you don’t have to worry if you forget to charge the battery. Bluetooth 4.0 technology enables connecting to any Bluetooth device in 33ft range, and there is also NFC function which makes pairing with NFC enabled devices (most of Android phones) even easier than pairing via Bluetooth. Battery offers up to 30 hours of listening to music, or talking on the phone, and it takes approximately 3 hours to fully recharge.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Stylish and simple design

Great choice for commuters and frequent travelers

Adjustable headband and earcups

Simple and easy-to-use controls

Really good sound quality

Bluetooth 4.0 technology

NFC technology

Long battery life – up to 30 hours of music playback or talking on the phone

ANC technology functions great only with low-frequency noise

Not waterproof or sweatproof

Not so durable (made mostly of plastic)

Available in only one color

Mpow Jaws V4.1 Bluetooth Neckband Headphones Noise Cancelling Earbuds with Mic

Approximate Price : $20.00

Mpow Jaws V4.1 are another Mpow product on our list. Mpow really became famous for making affordable headphones with nice design and satisfying quality. Mpow Jaws also match these attributes. These are one of the most popular and cheapest in-ear headphones on the market.

Headphones come in a simple cardboard box along with USB charging cable and three pairs of ear tips in different sizes, so there is great possibility that you will find just the right size for your ears. You can pick between two colors – black and purple. One of the most interesting things about these earbuds is the design, especially shark-like, or jaws-like magnetic clips at each end of the neckband. The neckband is made of silicone, and the neckband ends are made of plastic. Headphones are really lightweight and feel comfortable around neck, so you will get used to them in no time. Durability is probably not great, considering the materials used to build them. Built-in mic and volume controls are located on the right end of the neckband, and track and call controls are on the left end. Controls are easy to use, and maybe just a little bit stiff. When you are not using your earbuds, you can connect them to the magnetic shark-like clips. That way, you will prevent them from dangling around your head and prolong the lifespan of the headphones. Mpow Jaws are not waterproof or sweatproof, so it is not recommended to use them for running or working out.

Mpow Jaws headphones offer pretty good sound quality for that price, thanks to CSR 8635 chip, but the bass is slightly problematic at high volume, and there is just a little bit of distortion when the volume is at maximum. Headphones use CVC 6.0 passive noise reduction technology, that enables clearer sound in noisy environment, but you will still be able to hear big portion of outside noise. Talking on the phone during windy weather could be problematic. Mpow Jaws use 4.1 technology that enables pairing with any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range in just a couple of seconds. The connection functions just fine, and there were no complaints regarding that issue. The battery exceeds all the expectations, and you won’t find more durable battery for that amount of money. It offers up to 13 hours of listening to music or talking on the phone per one charge. It takes 2 hours to fully recharge.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Interesting design with shark-like magnetic ends

Comfortable and lightweight

Easy-to-use controls

Good sound quality

Bluetooth 4.1 technology

Durable battery – up to 13 hours of music playback or talking on the phone

CVC 6.0 passive noise reduction technology

Not so durable (made mostly of plastic)

Not waterproof or sweatproof

Mpow USB Headset/ 3.5mm Computer Headset with Microphone

Approximate Price : $25.00

One more Mpow product on our list and this one is designed mostly for Skype calls and online conferences. They are also perfect choice for call center operators. These headphones can be also used as gaming headphones, but that is not intended to be their primary function, and there are much better gaming headsets on the market. Some of those gaming headphones will be included in our list, so if you are looking for that kind of item just scroll down.

These are the first wired headphones on our list. The design is simple and stylish, and they are available in 2 colors – black and white. They come in a simple box along with USB dongle and user manual. USB dongle is one of the most interesting features of these headphones. USB dongle has USB cable on one end and 3.5mm female jack on the other end. You can use it to connect the headphones to a computer via USB port, and in case you want to use these headphones with your phone, you can simply remove the dongle, and use them like any other headphones with 3.5mm audio cable. There are 4 buttons on the dongle, and you can use them to turn on/off microphone, control volume level, and mute/unmute speakers. Some users complained that these control buttons are maybe too sensitive, so you can accidentally turn the mic on or off when you don’t want to. In order to make these headphones comfortable Mpow made adjustable headband with stainless steel slider and soft earmuffs, but still, you can feel slight discomfort after wearing them for a couple of hours (they can feel a little bit tight on ears and on head). On the left earcup, there is a flexible arm with unidirectional mic at the end. The arm is detachable, so you don’t have to walk around with mic if you use headphones for listening to music.

These headphones are optimized for conversation and you will get great sound if you use them for Skype calls, but if you want to use them for listening to music you won’t be equally satisfied – bass is really good, but highs are almost nonexistent. In the USB dongle, there is built-in noise reduction sound card, that does a good job with low-frequency noise and static noise, and will definitely be useful feature in your office or your house. When you use these headphones with your phone, there will be no noise reduction since you will have to detach the USB dongle. Unidirectional mic does a good job and enables easy and clear conversation. You just have to get used to the talking into the right direction since the unidirectional mic will pick up the sound from only one side.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Stylish and simple design

Two types off connection – USB cable with a dongle and 3.5mm audio cable

Simple and easy-to-use controls on the USB dongle

Detachable mic

Optimized for conversation

Noise reduction sound card built into USB dongle

Not a good choice for listening to music

Mpow Thor Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones with Mic

Approximate Price : $26.00

The most respectable feature of these headphones is the design. Mpow did really good job with Mpow Thor and they look really stylish. Headphones are available in three colors – black, blue, and gray. Just like all the other Mpow products, the packaging is simple, and along with the headphones you will find there USB charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable, carrying pouch, and user manual. Headphones are foldable, so they will not take much place on your desk, or in your bag. They have expandable headband, so you can adjust it to your head. There are also protein ear pads and protein leather wrapping that make them more comfortable than other Mpow headphones on the market. Lightweight design also improves the comfort. On the right earcup, you will find all the volume and track controls, mic, Bluetooth indicator, power button, and line-in jack. Since you use the same button to adjust the volume and change tracks, you can change the track when you try to adjust the volume, so we have to say that controls are a little bit tricky. Durability is one of the biggest problems with these headphones because they are mostly made of plastic.

Thanks to 40mm driver, Mpow Thor headphones offer pretty good sound quality with booming bass, and not so bright highs, but all in all, we have to be satisfied with the sound considering the price. These headphones don’t use any sound reduction on sound canceling technology, so you won’t be isolated from the environmental noise of any kind, and talking on the phone in windy weather or on the street could be a problem. If you are looking for noise canceling headphones, you should look at some other product. These headphones use Bluetooth 4.0 technology and they can be paired with any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range. There were no complaints concerning the connectivity. Battery is not the greatest feature of these headphones, but it is still decent. You can listen to music or talk on the phone for up to 8 hours, and it takes 2-3 hours to fully recharge. If your battery runs out, you can attach 3.5mm audio cable, and use the headphones in wired mode. For some reason, known only to the manufacturer, the mic will work only in wireless mode.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Stylish design

Comfortable

Good sound quality

Bluetooth 4.0 technology

Dual mode – wired/wireless

Decent battery life – up to 8 hours of music playback or talking on the phone

Controls can be tricky

Not so durable

Mic works only in wireless mode

No ANC or noise reduction

TaoTronics TT-BH026 Wireless Earbuds Sweatproof Sport Earphones

Approximate Price : $26.00

These are the first sports in-ear headphones (earbuds) on our list. Taotronics have become popular for making great quality and cheap earbuds. These are one of the earbuds from the TT-BH series with the best features so far, and the most noticeable changes are longer battery life and improved mic performance.

Just like all those cheap earbuds and headphones, manufacturer didn’t put much effort into designing the packaging. You will get simple cardboard box, and inside the box, you will find earbuds with connecting cord, 3 pairs of in-ear hooks and ear tips in different sizes, USB charging cable, cord management clip, black carrying pouch, and user manual. The design is sporty and stylish at the same time. Earbuds are available only in black color. They have nano-coating that protects them from sweat and light rain (IPX5 splash-proof rating), and this is the main feature that makes these earbuds special. You can wear them while running, jogging, or working out without any problem. They are really lightweight (0.53 ounces), and have silicone-made ear tips and in-ear hooks that snug perfectly in your ears, and these features make them extremely comfortable. Thanks to in-ear hooks, earbuds will stay stable in your ears, and won’t fall out even during the hardest workout. On the connecting cord, you will find in-line controls with built-in mic. You can use controls to answer or make calls, adjust volume level and control music playback. Earbuds have magnetic ends, so when you are not using earbuds you can connect them and wear them around your neck.

Taotronics TT-BH026 earbuds offer you pretty good sound quality with balanced audio. They have MEMS mic, which is an improvement compared to older models of Taotronics earbuds but also to most of other cheap earbuds on the market, and you will definitely feel the difference. Earbuds use CVC 6.0 passive noise reducing technology, which can be helpful but won’t be as great as ANC, and you will experience some problems in noisy environment. Bluetooth 4.0 technology enables pairing with any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range. Earbuds can be paired with 2 devices simultaneously (2 phones, phone and PC, etc.), but you could experience some problems because of signal interference. Battery is decent, but not great. It offers up to 8 hours of music playback or talking on the phone, and it takes 2 hours to fully recharge. There is also battery life indicator for all devices. These earbuds have slightly less durable battery than some other headphones and earbuds on our list, but since they are designed for sports and not for long travels, 8 hours seems just enough.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Sporty and stylish design

IPX5 splash-proof rating

Comfortable and stable

Good sound quality with balanced audio

MEMS microphone

Bluetooth 4.0 technology

Can be paired with 2 devices simultaneously

CVC 6.0 noise reducing technology

Decent battery life – up to 8 hours of music playback or talking on the phone

1MORE Triple Driver In-Ear Headphones with Apple iOS and Android Compatible Microphone

Approximate Price : $92.00

These wired earbuds are great choice for audiophiles, and they cost a couple times less than other headphones with similar characteristics. 1More did a great job in sound quality and design departments.

1More Triple Driver In-Ear Headphones come in a really classy packaging with magnetic clasp. The moment you see the packaging, you will think that you bought something really special. 1More really made great effort to design the packaging, and when you open it you will be even more amazed. Along with the earbuds, you will find 9 pairs of ear tips in different sizes (6 pairs are made of silicone, and 3 pairs made of foam), sturdy carrying case, dual prong airline adapter, shirt clip, and a ¼ inch adapter, that could be used instead of regular 3.5mm jack. Earbuds are available in 2 colors – titanium and gold. Casings are made of aluminum alloy, so you can be certain that they will last. Earpieces are slightly angled in order to fit your ear canal better. 9 pairs of ear tips combined with angled earpieces guarantee you great comfort, and most of users are absolutely happy about this feature. On the cord, there is 3-button in-line remote control with built-in MEMS mic.

The best feature of these earbuds is the sound quality. 1More made great effort to put 3 drivers in such a small casing. One driver is for bass, other is for mid-tones, and the third is for highs. Thanks to these drivers you will get perfectly balanced audio with rich bass even with old music recordings, full mid-tones, and clean highs. You will definitely enjoy the sound, even if you are an audiophile, and if you are still not completely happy, you can try another 1More product with the same design but with four drivers (that cost $200). 1More triple-driver earbuds don’t use any noise canceling or noise reduction technology, so it will be problem to use them for listening to music or talking on the phone in noisy environment. MEMS microphone works just fine and mic itself can eliminate great portion of static noise, so you can use it in some types of noisy environment without experiencing any difficulties.

Earbuds are advertised as compatible with all Apple and Android, and there were no any complaints regarding the compatibility. On the other hand, there were some complaints about cord quality – whenever you move, the cord is moving too, and you could hear some odd cracking or twitching sound.

Attractive design

Rich packaging with even 9 pairs of ear tips and other accessories

Durable – made of high-quality materials

Comfortable – angled earpieces and silicone and foam ear tips

Great sound quality

MEMS microphone

Compatible with all Android and Apple devices

No ANC or noise reduction technology

Bose QuietComfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Wired Headphones

Approximate Price : $279.00

Another Bose product on our list, it is less impressive than previous QC35 model, but still worth mentioning and buying, if you have enough money, of course. The main feature is active noise canceling technology, just like with QC35. They cost $50 less than QC35 because these are wired and offer slightly worse sound quality.

Bose QC25 come in a small, well-designed box. In the box, you will find headphones, detachable 3.5mm audio cable, sturdy carrying case, airplane adapter, and user manual. They are available in black and white colors with blue details, and there is also triple black model. Bose QC25 headphones have adjustable and soft headband and swiveling earcups with nice padding, and all these characteristics combined give you great comfort. On the 3.5mm audio cable, there is in-line remote control with built-in mic. Some users were complaining about headphones being too tight, but this is really marginal issue. The bigger problem is the quality of 3.5mm jacks, especially the one that goes into the phone, PC, or airplane adapter, and there were even cases of jacks being broken.

The sound quality is great but not as great as the sound that QC35 or some other Sony or Sennheiser headphones in the same price range can offer. It is definitely better than all the cheaper headphones we mentioned, but since they have such a high price they could be a little bit more competitive. Mid-tones and highs are perfect, but the bass is a little bit wild. We already mentioned noise canceling feature, and this is really the best thing about these headphones. Bose QC25 and QC35 are without any doubt the best noise canceling headphones on the market.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Great stylish design

Comfortable – adjustable headband and soft ear cushions

Simple and easy-to-use controls

Excellent Acoustic Noise Cancelling

Really good sound quality, but there are headphones with better sound quality in the same price range

Poorly made 3.5mm jacks

Avantree Wireless/Wired Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones

Approximate Price : $50.00

This is one more model with great price/quality ratio. They are not so expensive, and for that money, you will get more than you can expect. Their most important feature is sound quality, and the biggest flaw is lack of any noise canceling or noise reducing technology.

Avantree headphones come in original box with an open front side. They are only available in one color combination (black-red). There is also all-black model, but it costs $30 more, not because of the color, but because of the improved sound (aptX low latency Bluetooth transmitter and new version of CSR chip), Bluetooth 4.1 technology, and additional zippered carrying case that is included in the package. Along with headphones, you will get 3.5mm audio cable, USB charging cable, and user manual. There is no carrying case included in the package, so you will have to buy it separately. Headphones are really comfortable and lightweight (180g), they have adjustable soft headband and big ear pads that go over your ears with soft cushions that could be replaced by the user if they get damaged. On the right earcup, you will find volume and track controls and built-in mic. Headphones are made of sturdy plastic combined with aluminum parts and protein leather, and they look durable. Some users complained about the construction quality, but most of them used the headphones for workout and in the gym, and they are not designed for that. If you want your headphones to last, you have to know in which situations you can use them. These headphones are not sweat resistant not sweatproof (or waterproof), and you shouldn’t be using them for workouts.

The sound quality is the most important feature. Avantree used aptX drivers for Bluetooth transmission and CSR chip. The result is great sound quality with just the right amount of bass, warm mid-tones, and clean highs. Headphones use Bluetooth V4.0 technology, so you can pair them with any Bluetooth enabled device (iPhone, Android phone, PC, TV), the connection is stable and without interference, and you can be connected to two devices at the same time. You should know that when you use your headphones with your TV there will be slight sound delay, but that’s nothing unusual when you use Bluetooth connection, and it is hardly noticeable. If you want even shorter delay you can buy more expensive model with aptX low latency adapter. Headphones also have NFC (touch-to-pair) function that works with most Android phones. Battery is incredibly durable – it offers up to 40 hours of music playback or talking on the phone. When your battery runs out, you can use these headphones in wired mode by attaching 3.5mm audio cable, but you should be aware that mic works only in wireless mode.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Appealing design

Comfortable for wearing

Great sound quality

Bluetooth V4.0 technology

NFC function

Extremely durable battery – up to 40 hours of music playback or talking on the phone

Not waterproof or sweatproof

No ANC or passive noise reducing technology

Sony MDRXB950BT/B Extra Bass Bluetooth Headphones

Approximate Price : $128.00

What kind of list would this be without a name like Sony? We all know how long is the tradition of making all kinds of electronic audio devices that stands behind Sony. Sony MDRXB950BT/B Bluetooth headphones are maybe a little bit pricey, but they have some great features and incredibly appealing design, so if you have enough money you won’t regret if you buy these.

Headphones come in original Sony packaging along with USB charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable (1.2m long), and user manual. They are available in 3 colors – red, blue, and black. The design of these headphones is truly amazing, they have really appealing look. The biggest flaw of these headphones is the quality of construction, and the most fragile part is the piece of plastic that connects headband and earcups, so you should be aware of this issue. Sony tried to make them as comfortable as possible, although they are a little bit heavier than other similar products on the market. Headphones have adjustable headband and soft ear cushions, so you won’t feel that much pressure, but since they completely cover ears there could be some sweating, so you should take them off and wipe them every now and then. Headphones are not waterproof or sweatproof, so it is not recommended to use them for workout. Controls are placed on both earcups – there are power button, bass boost button, 3.5mm jack, and mic on the right earcup, and volume and track controls are placed on the left earcup. Controls are simple and easy to use.

As we said, the sound is definitely the best feature of these headphones. With Sony MDRXB950BT/B headphones you will get clear balanced audio, with a chance to improve bass experience by pressing bass boost button, and this is really a game changer that makes these headphones one of the best in sound and bass departments. On the other hand, there is no ANC or any other noise isolation technology present, so you will definitely experience some problems in noisy environment (on the streets, during windy weather, in traffic, on a plane), so it is maybe the best option to use them in your house or office. The microphone is not so great feature of these headphones, and some users were complaining about the mic quality, because it ‘’muffles” their voice, so talking on the phone might not be so pleasant with these headphones. Bluetooth V4.1 enables connecting to any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range, and there were no reported connectivity problems; if anything, connection is even more stable than advertised. There is also NFC touch-to-pair function present, so if you have Android phones you just have to tap your headphones and your phone together, and you are connected. Battery is really durable, it can last up to 20 hours without bass boost on, and after you drain out your battery, you can attach 3.5mm audio cable and use your Sony headphones as any other wired headphones.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Superb design

Comfortable and stable

Simple and easy-to-use controls

Great sound quality

Bass boost button

Bluetooth V4.1 technology

HyperX KHX-H3CL/WR Cloud Gaming Headset

Approximate Price : $80.00

This is the first gaming headset on our list. We picked it because it’s one of the most popular and highly rated gaming headsets on the market. It is not expensive as some other headsets, and it offers the same or even better experience. HyperX KHX-H3CL/WR Cloud Gaming Headset is compatible with bunch of different gaming consoles (X Box One, X Box One S, PS4) PCs (Windows and Apple OS), and phones (Android and iPhone).

Headphones come in a stylish black box with Hyper X logo on it, and the whole appearance of these earbuds is really impressive. In the package, you will find Hyper X gaming headset, detachable mic with microphone plug, spare pair of ear cushions, control box with 3.5mm jacks (1m long), 10cm long headset splitter cable, 2m long extension cable, airplane adapter, and black pouch. The first great feature of these headphones is quality of construction which is really impressive. Headphones are mostly made of aluminum alloy, and they are definitely made to last. Headphones are also comfortable with adjustable soft headband padded with fake leather, and ear cushions are soft. If you have bigger head or bigger ears, you might find these headphones a little bit too tight – the earcups should be just a little bit bigger. Controls are placed on the control box which unlike the headphones looks a little bit cheap. You can use them to adjust the volume level on your headphones and your mic, and to answer and end calls or play and pause songs when headphones are connected to the phone.

Thanks to dynamic 53mm large driver and closed-back design, you will get amazing sound quality with booming bass. The sound is definitely the feature you will love about these gaming headphones. Mic is solidly built, and it is detachable which is a great thing when you want to use your headphones for watching movies or listening to music. A certain number of users complained about the static noise that comes from mic from time to time, and about mic picking up audio from the headphones when listening to some music or watching a video, so the person you are talking to can hear that.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Compatible with many gaming platforms, operating systems, Android phones, and iPhones

 Extremely durable

Great comfort ensures hours of gaming time

Great sound quality

Detachable mic

Poorly built volume, call, and track controls

Occasional mic problems

Turtle Beach – Ear Force XO One Amplified Gaming Headset – Xbox One

Approximate Price : $60.00

If you are not prepared to spend more than $100 on your Xbox gaming headset then this might be just the right headset for you, because this one is probably the best gaming headset in that price range. You can also use it with any phone or PC (if you want to watch some movie or listen to music), and the reason why we are talking about Xbox is an audio adapter that comes with the headset and can be used instead of standard Xbox audio adapter.

The headset comes in an original Turtle Beach packaging along with detachable omnidirectional microphone and audio adapter. The headset is only available in black color, but since this is a gaming headset the features are much more important than colors. Speaking about the features it is important to say that this is kind of small, lightweight headset. It has adjustable soft headband and soft ear cushions and because of that, it feels really comfortable even after hours of wearing. We have to mention that these are on-ear headphones, so if you have sensitive ears it doesn’t matter how great and soft cushions are, you will still have to take them off occasionally. The headset is completely made of plastic, but it feels durable, and there were no complaints regarding durability. On the other side, users complained a lot about audio cable length. The cable is 1m long and you won’t be having problems when playing games on your Xbox, but if you want to connect these headphones to your laptop and watch a movie you will have to be really close to it, and be careful about every move. Fortunately, this is the problem that you can solve easily by buying audio extension cable.

If you use Turtle Beach XO One headset only for gaming you will definitely be happy with the sound quality. The headphones are a little bit heavy on bass, and you even have the option to boost the bass by pressing the button on audio adapter so the gaming experience, especially if you play lots of shooting games will be incredible – all the explosions will sound incredible and you will hear every whisper and every step of your enemy. If you want to use these headphones for listening to music, then you won’t be so happy with the sound, because the mid-tones and the treble are not as great as bass. Turtle Beach headsets usually have high-quality mics, and this one is no different, so you will have clear communication with other players. Another great feature is mic monitor, so you will hear everything you say into the mic, and you won’t have to raise your voice in order to hear yourself while chatting. Audio adapter is simple and you can use it to adjust the game and chat volume, mute/unmute the mic, or boost the bass.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Durable

Comfortable for on-ear headphones

Great sound quality for gaming with lots of bass

High-quality detachable mic

Simple and useful audio adapter

Short audio cable

Not a great choice for listening to music

Skullcandy Hesh 2 Bluetooth Wireless Headphones with Mic

Approximate Price : $70.00

Skullcandy has become famous for making good quality headphones with interesting design. There is probably no company on the market that pays that much attention to the design and variety of choices like Skullcandy, so if you are searching for some fashionable headphones with really good technical characteristics, Skullcandy is the right brand for you.

Skullcandy Hesh 2 wireless headphones with mic are available in 6 colors and color combinations – black, camo, silver/black/chrome, white/gold, gray/plaid, and light gray/hot lime. It is maybe unfair but some models are much more expensive just because of the color.

Headphones come in an original Skullcandy packaging where you will also find USB charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable with in-line mic and controls, and black carrying bag. We already mentioned what kind of attention Skullcandy pays to the design, and these headphones prove that – they are simple but fashionable and stylish. They are made of sturdy industrial plastic, with rubbery paddings on the headband and earpads so you can be certain that these are made to last. There were no complaints regarding comfort. On the right earcup, there is built-in mic, interesting volume controls, and one multifunctional button (power on/of, track control, call control). The multifunctional button can be confusing and you might need some time to get used to it.

Skullcandy Hesh 2 has 50mm drivers and offer really good sound quality with rich bass, full mid-tones and bright highs. There is no ANC, but these over-ear headphones seal around your ear better than most headphones with ANC, and really isolate you from any environmental noise. Headphones use Bluetooth V4.0 technology and can be paired with any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range. In reality, the range is around 10ft shorter. Battery offers up to 12 hours (customers say that it is even longer than that) of listening to music or talking on the phone, and when the battery runs out you can attach audio cable and use these headphones in wired mode.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Simple and fashionable design

Truly durable

Comfortable

Great sound quality

Bluetooth V4.0 technology

Durable battery – up to 12 hours of listening to music or talking on the phone

Dual mode – wired and wireless

No ANC, but headphones seal around your ears really well

Unreasonable difference in price for models in different colors with the same technical specs

Slightly confusing multifunctional button

Bluedio Turbine T2s Wireless Bluetooth Headphones with Mic

Approximate Price : $26.00

These are one more pair of headphones with great money/quality ratio. You can be assured that you will get really good product for such a small amount of money.

Bluedio Turbine T2s headphones have really interesting design with rotating earcups, which can be handy when traveling because they won’t take that much space like some other headphones. They come in a simple cardboard box with Bluedio logo and a picture of headphones on it. In the box, aside from the headphones, you will find 3.5mm audio cable, USB charging cable, and user manual. There will be no charging adapter, but that has become usual thing, especially with cheaper headphones. Headphones are available in 4 colors – black, blue, red, and white. They are entirely made of plastic so we can’t say that they will last for years, that really seems impossible, but they will serve you for a year or two if you use them properly, and honestly, we think that you shouldn’t be expecting more for that kind of money. These are really comfortable headphones with soft and adjustable headband and soft ear cushions. Earcups can be rotated towards headband up to 195 degrees. All the controls are on the right earcup; there are separate volume and track controls, and while you will get used to the volume controls in a moment, you will probably need some time to understand track controls since they are slightly more complicated. Mic is also on the right earcup, and on the left earcup, there is only 3.5mm audio jack.

Bluedio Turbine T2s headphones offer great sound quality for that price. It is really more than you can expect, especially when you have in mind that even some great and reputable companies made so many mistakes in that department, and even made you pay a lot for their not so great products. You won’t pay much for these headphones and you will get tremendous bass, articulate mid-tones, and balanced highs. All the bass lovers should definitely try these. Bluedio headphones use Bluetooth V4.1 technology which is unusual for cheap headphones (they usually have previous Bluetooth 4.0 version). Bluetooth V4.1 enables better sound compression with less power consumption, and that results in better sound quality and longer battery life. You can pair your headphones with any Bluetooth-enabled device within 33ft range, and the quality of connection is just perfect. Battery is really durable, it is incredible that such a cheap product has that kind of battery – you can listen to music for up to 40 hours or talk on the phone for up to 45 hours in one charge. It takes 2 hours for the battery to fully recharge. When you run out of battery you can use these headphones in wired mode.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Affordable price

Comfortable to wear

Decent durability considering the price

Great sound quality and superb bass

Bluetooth V4.1

Extremely durable battery – up to 40 hours of music playback and up to 45 hours of talking on the phone

Two modes – wired and wireless

Decent durability considering the price (but still they are entirely made of plastic)

Complicated track controls

Carrying case is not included in the package

Charging adapter is not included in the package

No ANC

Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Headphones

Approximate Price : $400.00

We have started our list with one pair of high-end headphones, and we decided to end it with another. These headphones are one of the most expensive on the market, and they are definitely not for everyone – only for those with lots of cash or for real audiophiles that don’t mind spending incredible amounts of money on audio equipment. Sennheiser PXC 550 headphones really offer great quality in every aspect, and if you have this kind of money, you should definitely make the purchase.

Headphones come in an original Sennheiser box along with sturdy carrying case, USB charging cable, 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable, ¼in adapter, and airplane adapter. They are available only in black color, but with these headphones, it is more about performance than about number of models in different colors. PXC 550 have well cushioned adjustable headband and soft around-ear earpads, which guarantee you great comfort for hours. Some users complained about comfort, specifically about the size of the earpads (inner diameter of the earpad), so if you have slightly bigger ears PXC 550 won’t seal around your ears perfectly and there will be some pressure on them. If you still want to buy some high-end headphones, and you have bigger ears, then Bose QuietComfort 35 from the beginning of our list, might be better option (because of the bigger earpads). PXC 550 are incredibly durable headphones – you can bend them, stretch them (although we don’t recommend that), and they will still be just fine. These headphones are made to last, and they will serve you for at least a couple of years (if not even more). Controls are one of the cool features that pushes the price up. Sennheiser really raised the bar high with sensitive touch control panel on the right earcup. You can swipe the controls up or down to adjust the volume, and left or right to change the track. If you want to play/pause the song you should tap the middle of the earcup. On the right earcup, you will also find ANC button and power button. Power button should have been positioned better, because you can accidentally switch your headphones on while folding them, and that could drain your battery.

Speaking about the sound quality, with Sennheiser PXC 550 you will get what you paid for. Amazing audio quality with punchy bass, full mid-tones and emphasized highs is what you get, but that’s not all. On the right earcup, there is also a small button below the ANC switch that enables you to pick different sound profiles. You can also download to your iPhone or Android phone application called CapTune that will allow you to adjust the Equalizer and personalize your sound experience. Sennheiser pushed the limits with one more feature, and that is ANC. Sennheiser used new generation of digital noise canceling technology called NoiseGuard, which enables adapting to any environment. NoiseGuard follows the changes in noise frequency, and isolates huge portion of noise. Some would even say that Sennheiser PXC 550 has much better ANC than Bose QC 35. If you combine ANC with high-quality mic, you can imagine what kind of talking experience these headphones offer – it is simply amazing. PXC 550 headphones use Bluetooth V4.2 technology, which enables pairing with any Bluetooth enabled device within 33ft range (but the range is larger than that). The connection is stable and there is no interference. There is also NFC function available for even easier pairing with your NFC enabled devices. Battery is really durable – it can last up to 30 hours with ANC function off and up to 20 hours when ANC is on. If you run out of battery, there is also 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable, and you can use it to connect your headphones to your phone, and use them in wired mode.

Advantages and Disadvantages

One of the most durable headphones on the market

Sensitive touch controls

Superb sound quality

CapTune application

Excellent ANC NoiseGuard function

High-quality mic

Bluetooth V4.2

NFC function

Durable battery – up to 30 hours with ANC off, up to 20 hours with ANC on

Price is really high (but you will get great quality for that money)

Comfortable to wear unless you have big ears

We have tried to make a decent list that could offer something for everyone. We have included different types of headphones with mic for all needs, and from different price ranges. We’ve been careful with our choice and tried to present to you some high-end headphones that deliver incredible sound and have bunch of additional features, but we didn’t forget about those buyers with modest budgets, and we also presented to you some reasonably priced (and some really cheap) headphones and earbuds, but only those with great price/quality ratio. We were oriented towards quality all the time, and even those cheap headphones on our list are definitely the best you can get for such a small amount of money, but don’t think that those cheap models could beat more expensive ones from our list in terms of sound quality, durability, comfort, or sound canceling.

In order to make your choice even easier, we will give you short summary of all the things you should know about the headphones before buying.

Types of headphones

Classification by shape and size

  • In-ear headphones (earbuds) – the smallest type of headphones you can buy, compact and lightweight. They go directly into your ear canal and offer pretty decent sound isolation thanks to the ear tips (but after you choose the right size). Earbuds (especially wireless Bluetooth models) are popular choice for active people and people that exercise a lot. Latest models of earbuds also use passive or active noise reducing technology, but although it is useful to have this function for talking on the phone, it is not recommended to use this function while running, jogging, cycling, or doing any kind of outside activity, because you should be aware of the things around you.
  • On-ear headphones (supra-aural headphones) –significantly larger and heavier than earbuds. They practically lie on your ears, and for a short period of time they can be more comfortable than earbuds, but after a couple of hours, your ears will probably start to hurt. You should be aware of this, and if you are planning to wear them for some short period of time they could be a good option, but if you want to wear them for hours then you should buy over-ear headphones. In general, on-ear headphones are more prone to sound leaking than earbuds and over-ear headphones. Just like earbuds, latest models use noise reducing or noise canceling technology, which comes in handy when you want to use them for talking on the phone, but it won’t be that helpful when you are listening to music.
  • Over-ear headphones (circum-aural headphones) – the largest type of the headphones, but they don’t have to be heavier than on-ear headphones – it all depends on materials that were used. They completely cover your ears and offer great noise isolation even if they don’t use any noise reducing or noise canceling technology, so if you want to completely enjoy your music without environmental noises these headphones are the best option. Latest models use ANC technology, which combined with over-ear design, enables you to completely shut out the noise. Because of this feature, they are great choice for commuters and frequent flyers.

Classification of on-ear and over-ear headphones by the type of the earcups

  • Open-back headphones worse noise isolation, less ear-sweating, better for outdoor use because you can hear environmental noises and be more aware of all the things going on around you.
  • Closed-back headphonesbetter noise isolation, more ear-sweating, better for indoor use (listening to music, watching movies, traveling)

Classification by the type of connection

  • Wired – Offer better sound quality, but you will have less freedom because of the cords. If you are going to use your headphones mostly at your home or in your office (for Skype calls and online conferences), then these could be better option. Gamers can save some money by buying wired headphones with good quality mic instead of wireless since they practically don’t move away from their PCs and gaming consoles while playing. Also, if you are an audiophile, you should go for wired headphones.
  • Wireless (usually Bluetooth) – more freedom, but worse sound quality. In general, Bluetooth headphones deliver worse sound quality than wired because of the compression of the audio signal, but as the technology advances, the difference between wired and wireless headphones in terms of sound quality becomes smaller. Nowadays, there are some high-end Bluetooth headphones (Bose QC 35 or Sennheiser PXC 550) that can compete with any wired headphones, but even cheaper headphones and earbuds offer good, if not great sound quality thanks to the new Bluetooth versions (4.0, 4.1, 4.2) which reduce the amount of compression.

In the end, we are going to specify some purposes of the headphones with mic, define some highly desirable features for every purpose and suggest you the best models from our list for every listed purpose.
